Our Story

"Software Developer" - An organism that turns caffeine into software.

Humble Beginnings in Florida

Our story begins when Brent Oxley got into the web hosting industry by launching Hostgator.com in a Florida dorm room in 2002. After hiring a few employees, Brent acquired a small space in a strip mall and HostGator was off and running.

The Boca Raton office was often raucous and even had dirt bikes driven through the chat floor at high speeds. It commonly featured our future CTO David Collins sleeping on a couch in the back surrounded by Arizona Iced Tea bottles.

After rapid growth in the reseller hosting market HostGator outgrew its small Boca Raton office, and by 2006, relocated to Houston, Texas.

Texas Expansion

While in Texas HostGator hired more than 1000 full time employees in Houston & Austin and grew to host millions of clients. In 2012 HostGator was acquired by Endurance International Group and Brent purchased an 18,000 acre ranch.

After 6 years, HostGator began to deteriorate under the leadership of Endurance's classic style bankers. Their decisions for the business seemingly driven by spreadsheets, led to a decline in client satisfaction. Simultaneously, Brent grew restless on the ranch and wanted back into the hosting space. Once the non compete agreements expired, the original HostGator team decided to get back together and do the job right.

At Present, and Beyond...

Create.com was formed in 2020 with the goal of avoiding all of the mistakes HostGator made during its rise and acquisition, this time with a keen focus on best in class customer service, speed, security, and self help automation.

David was into technology at a young age thanks to his father who always kept computers & other fun electronics close at hand. After attending Seneca College in Toronto, Ontario David got involved with the founding HostGator team and quickly became the most important technical voice on the team.

After growing HostGator into an industry leader David remained with the company throughout the Endurance acquisition and became Chief Architect of Production at EIG. During that time he held many responsibilities, including: Oversight of all new and existing hosting infrastructure, backups & disaster recovery, custom linux kernel development, security advancements, and most importantly, purchasing urinal cakes for the Houston office.

Many of David’s creations have been upstreamed and/or included as security features in the most popular web hosting software used by the industry.

Chief Executive Officer

Even though we find suits to typically be unimportant and mostly a hinderance, there are a few exceptions. Adam is one of those exceptions. Adam Farrar, CEO of Create.com and former CEO of HostGator.com, began as a Support Technician at HostGator in 2009 during the Houston expansion. Adam quickly rose through the ranks, leading Billing, Sales, Support, and ultimately was chosen as CEO. During his leadership as CEO, he helped to lead HostGator through its acquisition in 2012.

Adam is passionate about customer service and the broader customer experience. Many CEO’s are detached from the front line but Adam ensures he’s as close to the customer as possible. He likes to follow in the footsteps of our founder Brent Oxley by answering every e-mail he receives from our clients. His primary focus is to ensure Create.com is continually adapting and improving our products to an industry leading level.
